Throat Singing

Very curious to western ears, this type of singing allows the singer to produce more than one note. You will hear the low tones, but also listen for the high tones - they sound a bit like a pennywhistle, but they are being sung. The video below is a cappella, without the distractions of instruments. Among the Mongol people, throat singing has traditionally been a male activity. Superstitions kept women from learning the art. It was said that any woman who learned throat singing would be unable to have children. Link to more information.
