Commendations for Coquina Veterans

At a Coquina Crossing Vets meeting on Oct 8, these WWII and Korean Vets were presented with official U.S. Army commendations which were submitted by SST Ardys J. Favaro of the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq. There were 41 Freedom Team Salute packets in all which will be distributed to the rest of the recipients soon.
This wonderful surprise came about through correspondence between the coordinator of Coquina Crossing Soldier Support and the unit in Iraq to which they had been sending care packages for the past year. These veterans have been participating in the program with no thought of any thanks or recognition. However, SST Favaro felt differently. Although our soldiers often put in 12 and 16 hour days, she took the time to submit all 41 names to the Army for this reward which made it even more special because it came from her.

Prize winning photography

This photo, titled Bob and Wally, is the work of Michael. It was submitted to the Wounded Warrior Project photo contest in Jacksonville where it garnered first prize. Rather than accept the award of $200, Michael graciously donated the money back to the Wounded Warrior Project. Bob and Wally is to be re-interpreted as a painting. The painting will (hopefully) be on display at the All Purpose Field in St. Augustine (near the municipal parking lot) on November 11, Veterans Day. Afterwards the painting will be sold at auction, proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
Put your extra car key beside your bed at night
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want t hat. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

It is interesting how the filmaker is constantly changing the camera angle. And when you get to the end it will all make sense.
