Larkspur Flag

In 2002, the Bodger Seed Company of El Monte, CA, planted a six acre plot of larkspur in the pattern of an American Flag in the city of Lompoc, CA. The field was a tribute to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Being a seed company, the field was not just decoration. The seeds were harvested and packaged with the correct proportions of red, white, and blue flower seeds to allow for planting of smaller versions of the American Flag. The company says this flower flag was the first to have five-pointed stars. Bodger has planted flags four times in the past - 1942, 1943, 1945, and 1952. The flag has not been replanted since 2002.  link1   link2   link3

Brian Keith

In the April 6, 2008 issue we told of California sculptor, Brian Keith, who was drawing inspiration for his latest project from the stories of Coquina Crossing WWII aviators. Brian wrote to say that the first four sculptures of his composition Imagine have been installed. Visit his website to see more photos and follow the progress of the remaining sculptures.  link1   link2   link3
