Cliff Hangers

Photos of three cities on the edge.

Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Andalucia. It is located about 100 km from the city of Málaga, within the autonomous community of Andalucía. Its population is 35,512. It is also accessible by rail from Algeciras and from Córdoba.

Ronda is situated in a very mountainous area about 750 m above mean sea level. The Rio Guadalevín runs through the city, dividing it in two and carving out the steep El Tajo canyon upon which the city is perched. Ronda was first settled by the early Celts, but its Roman and then Moorish rulers are reflected most prominently in its architecture. The forces of Catholic Spain took control of the town in 1485.  link

Castellfollit de la Roca is a municipality in the comarca of Garrotxa, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The urban area is bordered by the confluence of the Fluvià and Toronell rivers, between which the town's basalt cliff rises. The town is in an area of less than a square kilometre, making it one of the smallest towns in Catalonia. The basalt crag where the town is situated is over 50 m high and almost a kilometre long. It was formed by the overlaying of two lava flows.  link

Signers of the Declaration of Independence

I knew John Hancock. John Hancock was a friend of mine. And let me tell you - I'm no John Hancock.

It was an exciting time, 1776. I bet you would have liked to have been there to add your signature to the parchment. The National Archives has a time machine that will let you make your contribution to the birth of our nation. Just follow this link.

I knew it would happen with two names so similar.

The prison hasn't been built that can hold me!

Dodging tranquillizer darts and yelping at his captors, a brazen chimp staged his own version of The Great Escape.

At Ishikawa Zoo, western Japan a 42-year-old chimpanzee named Ichiro led the audacious break-out from his pen and refused to come down from the roof.

At one point the chimp even grabbed the zoo worker's tranquillizer gun, but luckily it fell to the floor. Eventually the chimp was lured with a banana and then sedated.

The Annual Wife Carrying Race

It's the annual wife carrying races in Finland and husbands have been training hard for the event.
People from all over the world travelled to the country of the midnight sun to compete in the bizarre races in which husbands have to carry their spouses around an obstacle course. The prize to the winners is the wife's weight in beer. That might be all the motivation needed for it to become an annual event at Coquina Crossing.
